John Ball, born in New Hampshire in 1794, was an early Michigan pioneer and one of the first to settle in Grand Rapids. Jason Hammond’s papers consist of one scrapbook, which contains a few programs and photographs from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University). The majority of items are from the Michigan public schools at which he taught. Included are announcements, invitations, photographs, greeting cards, and programs from North Adams High School in Hillsdale, Michigan, where he was principal in 1891, and from schools in Allen and Johnsville, Michigan.

The records consist of a "Catalog of Course Outlines" which gives the name of the course and an outline of the curriculum. There is also a "Handbook of Policies and Procedures and Guides for Community Leaders." The handbook gives background information, a plan for implementation, roles and responsibilities of community leaders, and description of the implementation in four communities. Annual reports are also included in the collection.
