Collection Summary:This collection consists of realia from the rally including a towel, poster, T-shirt, and buttons.
Originally planned as two separate events the two rallies were combined into one held on 30 October, 2010 on the Washington Mall in Washington, DC. The estimated attendance was 250,000. Both were responses to a rally held at the Lincoln Memorial by Glenn Beck on 28 August 2010. Al Sharpton also held a rally on 28 August 2010 to counter Glenn Beck.
A charity drive for educational charities was started by Stephen Colbert through DonorsChoose.org. The day of the rally, $500,000.00 had been raised. Jon Stewart encouraged donations to the Trust for the National Mall and by the end of the rally, $188,000.00 had been raised.
While the rally consisted of comedy skits, giving out of medals, and a “Moment of Sincerity” speech at the conclusion by Jon Stewart.
The collection has one small box of realia.
