Collection Summary:

The collection numbers 177 color and black and white lobby cards in one box and spans the time period from the 1937 to 1991. The film topics include mystery, comedy, drama, western and romance.  Several titles include multiple cards depicting variant action scenes. Key actors included in this collection are Mexican American and Latina actors Anthony Quinn, Raquel Welch and Rita Moreno.  The majority of cards however are Mexican and Latin American actors in Mexican films who also enjoyed a crossover career to U.S. film and arts. Dramatic and romantic actor/singers Antonio and Luis Aguilar, Lola Beltrán, Pedro Armendáriz, Flor Silvestre (born Guillermina Jiménez Chagoya) and Cornelio Reyna are represented.  Included are international actor/directors such as Fernando Soler, Jose Ferrer and Emilio “El Indio” Fernandez.  The Aguilar brothers, Armendáriz and Emilio Fernandez were popular stars at the height of Mexico’s Golden Age of cinema. Others Golden Age stars include Gloria Marin, Ramon Gay, comic actor “Tin Tan” (Germán Valdés,) Marcelo Chávez, Libertad Lamarque, Sofia Álvarez, Luis and Antonio Aguilar, Ana Bertha Lepe, Mapy Cortés, Andrés Soler, and Lilia Prado.  A rare lobby card includes actress Rosaura Revueltas in a supporting role for the movie Lo Mejor de Teresa (1976, sheet #51). U.S. and eventually Mexican cinema blacklisted her for her role and participation in the filming of Salt of the Earth during the McCarthy era.  Like other mid-20th-century actors, directors, screenwriters, musicians, and other U.S. entertainment professionals, she was denied employment as an actor because of her association with persons harboring or suspected of harboring Communist sympathies.
