Davis family papers

The Davis family papers consist primarily of the collection of over 180 letters written by Thomas (T. J.) to his wife, Lucinda, during the Civil War. Also included are Lucinda Davis' reminiscences and an obituary prepared when she died.

The collection also includes transcriptions of the letters done by Thomas Nanzig.

Scope and Contents This collection consists primarily of Civil War letters received by Emmiline (Emma) Daggett, of Clinton County, Michigan. Emma received letters from her brother Will in the 10th Michigan Cavalry, her cousin George Daggett in the 33rd New York Infantry, and other friends in those regiments. The letters describe the soldiers' experiences but are primarily concerned with home matters. The bulk of the letters are from William Eaegle of the 3rd Michigan Cavalry, who married Emma Daggett in 1864....

This collection consists of a letter written by Eugene Ficket, an army officer stationed at Fort Kodiak, Alaska, to Lowell Leed. Ficket describes his life since graduation from West Point, and his journey from New York to Alaska via Panama. He also discusses his experiences at Fort Kodiak, describes the inhabitants and the Arctic environment, and comments on American and Russian influences in the region.

Scope and Contents This collections consists primarily of his letters home to his parents. Atkins spent much of 1862 and 1863 in army hospitals behind the lines.
