Photocopy of scrapbook, 1932 - 1933
Scope and Contents
The collection contains two scrapbooks that George Culp made during his college years. They contain newspaper clippings, programs for athletic and other events, tickets for events, humorous drawings by James Trott, postcards of New York City, a ROTC certificate, a commencement program, and his diploma. The photographs include the band practicing, group shots, photos of West Point, his ROTC unit and shots of field training, interior views of a building, possibly the Hesperian Society house, and shots of graduation. Most of the photographs are unidentified.
The scrapbook pages were removed from their deteriorating leather binders. The scrapbooks contain paper that is in bad condition and dark patches on items where the glue permeated the paper. Also the glue has dried causing pieces to fall from the pages. As a result the scrapbooks were photocopied to show arrangement and order of the pages and ensure articles can be read in the future. In cases where there were booklets, the archivist photocopied the covers to their show location in the scrapbook. The researcher should consult the originals to read the whole booklet. There are also loose scrapbook photographs within the collection of the Michigan State University campus, mainly of its buildings.
The miscellaneous folder contains negatives of unidentified people and places, a short biography of Culp written by Judith Sponheim, a newspaper article, funeral notice and note card with image of a grave on it.
