Scope and Contents

From the Record Group:

The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife records consist of correspondence, employment opportunities, and administrative files for 1948 to 1968. The correspondence is from the department chairman and professors, other professionals (academic, government, and private sector), future and past students, and the general public. Areas of correspondence include fish ponds (creation and maintenance), fish culture, recipes, bait culture (minnows, worms, frogs), pest control (mammals, crayfish, microscopic), admissions to program, staffing, bird banding, experimental station and bird sanctuary, public interest (alewife, lamprey eel), and careers in the field. In 1981, additional material was transferred to the archives from the department. This material included background historical information about the department and school, several projects and studies, and course materials. Material spanned the years of 1939 to 1975. The projects included studies with the Organization for Tropical Studies, Consumers Energy, Partners of the Alliance (in Belize), commercial fishing interests, and the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary. Course materials include 4-H, Fisheries, Zoology, and off campus seminars. In 2009, black and white photographs were added to the collection from the period 1929 to 1944. They include wildlife, habitat, course materials, and 4-H activities.
