Letters, 1862 - 1865
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of Civil War letters written by Augustus Holmes to family and friends. His letters describe guard duty as well as some scouting and raiding in Virginia. They also express Holmes' dissatisfaction with hospital life. Holmes frequently asked for or passed on news of his brother Edwin and stepbrothers Frank and Alvah Marsh (see collections c.109 and c.110). These materials have been transcribed, scanned and placed online at http://civilwar.archives.msu.edu/collection/7-1C-D/AugustusHolmes/.
Some typed descriptions are included in place of the original letters.
