This collection contains a brief, personal account of life in and around Lansing, Michigan, during World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II. Mrs. McDonald recounts her life as a child growing up in a rural community. She writes about life in general: the difficulty in finding a job, the hardships of the Depression, the relief offered by the New Deal, and a trip to the Chicago World's Fair of 1931. Throughout her writing, Mrs. McDonald shows how people were able to cope with the problems presented by the Depression and two world wars, and how she, herself, profited from the experience.
