Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Monroe papers consist of Charles Monroe's typewritten reminiscences, written in 1959 at age eighty-six. He discusses the history of Webberville, Michigan, the political and social life of the community, education in rural schools, market conditions and the costs of goods and services, as well as agricultural life and work. Monroe includes family history and anecdotes, especially about his father. He also includes a poem he wrote entitled "Webberville." Finally, there is a letter from Monroe to Dr. Frank Elliott at Michigan State University, asking if he would be interested in Monroe's reminiscences.
