Biographical / Historical

The Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) was created by the Technology Assessment Act of 1972. Its mission was to to provide scientific and technological analyses on various policy and legislative issues to Congress. The was a bipartisan body and consisted of private and government members. The OTA examined tecnology in eight areas of specialized areas, including Food Production. Clifton Wharton Jr. was the Chairman of the Food Advisory Committee. In that capacity, he establised the Panel on Nutrition.
