Scope and Contents

Ground breaking for the Breslin Student Events Center, a new $35 million dollar facility which will become the home of Spartan basketball, takes place outdoors at Michigan State University. The video begins with the Geriatric Six Plus One band performing on stage, led by Maurice Crane on clarinet. President John A. DiBiaggio makes opening remarks, and Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard pays tribute to Jack Breslin and declares the day "Jack Breslin Day" in the state of Michigan.

DiBiaggio announces Tom Reed, vice-chairman for the MSU Board of Trustees, who makes complimentary remarks about Breslin and asks his family, including Breslin's mother, to stand and be recognized. DiBiaggio then introduces Maria Loudas, executive director of the Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU), and finally introduces Breslin, who expresses his gratitude. The video ends with various individuals ceremonially breaking ground where construction of the Breslin Center will take place.
