 File — Box: 5634, Folder: 15

Scope and Contents

From the Record Group:

The Stanley Edwin Crowe collection contains office files relating to his time as director and dean of the General College, coordinator of the army training program, and dean of students. This includes correspondence between Crowe and Presidents Shaw and Hannah. One subject of particular interest is the collection of comments made by Crowe on women's attire, claiming that women wearing jeans is linked to excessive drinking and partying. Many responses, both for and against this view, are included in the collection. Another interesting subject is that of James Zarichny's expulsion. Zarichny was expelled from Michigan State after suspicion arose that he was a Communist. There is also a small amount of material related to entertainment for the Lecture-Concert Series as well as newspaper articles about allegations that the Lecture-Concert Series hired communist artists.
