Scope and Contents

The Rolan Sleight papers consist of memorabilia and records of the Class of 1915 Alumni Club, of which he served as secretary. His scrapbook depicts student life at M.A.C. from 1911 to 1915, and includes photographs, athletic schedules, M.A.C. school songs, invitations and printed programs, newspapers clippings, menus, student fee receipts, and report cards. Also included are photographs of class rush (class rivalry), alumni reunion of the class of 1915 in 1930, military science company B, students in front of Williams Hall, Gideon Smith, and crowds in stands.

Biographical Note

Rolan Wallace Sleight, of Laingsburg, Michigan, earned his B.S. in Agriculture from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1915. While at M.A.C., he was a member of the Farmer's Club, the Seminarius Botanicus (a botany honorary), and the Dorian Literary Society (Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity). After graduation, Sleight married Bernice Beckwith, of East Lansing, Michigan. The Sleights farmed in Laingsburg for a number of years before moving to St. Johns, Michigan, where Rolan became District Manager for the State Farm Insurance Company. Rolan Sleight was the Secretary of the class of 1915 Alumni Club.
