The collection contains articles written by Sylvan Wittwer including "Effective Management of Human and Physical Resources for International Agricultural Research," "Improving Storage Qualities of Crops by Treatment with Maleic Hydrazide," "Plasticulture," "Protected Cultivation of Horticulture Crops Worldwide," and "The Greenhouse Effect." Also included is a letter from Hubert H. Humphrey thanking Wittwer for his service on the Office of Technology Assessment's advisory panel on basic agricultural research.

Biographical Note

Sylvan H. Wittwer came to Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) in 1946 as an assistant professor of horticulture and was promoted to professor in 1951. He became assistant dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1965. He was the director of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station at Michigan State University (MSU) from 1964-1983. He served as chairperson of the Board of Agriculture of the National Research Council from 1973-1977. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Horticulture from MSU in 2002.
