This collection consists primarily of deeds, mortgages, and receipts relating to property owned by the Boutell family in Livingston County, Michigan. The Boutells were among the earliest settlers of Livingston County in the 1830s. Also included are reminiscences of Waldo Baker, an early pioneer in Howell, Michigan, describing the journey west from New York by carriage over the toll roads and life in rural Michigan in the 1850s.
