G. B. Surdam papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of Civil War letters written by G. B. Surdam to his sister and brother. A sergeant in the 6th Michigan Infantry, Surdam describes his service in Maryland and Virginia, and the military takeover of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Biographical Note
George B. Surdam (1835-1917) enlisted on August 20, 1861 at Kalamazoo, Michigan with Company K, 6th Michigan Infantry as Sergeant. He mustered out from Company K, 6th Michigan Artillery Regiment on August 23, 1864 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
