Pendleton family papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains correspondence, a majority from relatives and school friends of Lottie Pendleton (later Mrs. George W. Bailey) whose home was in Cleveland, Ohio, and who attended college at Adrian, Michigan. The letters (1854-1862) are largely from students at Albion and Oberlin Colleges and the University of Michigan, discussing future visits and the infrequency or shortness of letters written or received. Also included is a letter from her brother, Harry, describing events of the Civil War.
Additionally, the wills of Caleb Pendleton (1745) and of James Pendleton (1746), father and son, both of Westerly, Colony of Rhode Island are also included.
In addition, there are two manuscripts of miscellaneous poetry, illustrated with line drawings by Caleb Pendleton in the period 1817-1835. Also included are two manuscript copies of arithmetic books (1774, 1829), and a small account book (1864-1866) of George W. Bailey giving expense accounts, miscellaneous poetry, and medicinal recipes.
