Scope and Contents

The George J. Jenks collection contains photographs of the following people: A. E. Bulson Jr., Ruby I. Edwards, George Jenks, Frank Kedzie, Robert C. Kedzie, Francis McGrath, John O'Bannon, N. L. Russurau, Frank R. Whiting, and R. H. Wilson. The collection also includes photographs of the 1886 M.A.C. (Michigan Agrucultural College, now Michigan State University) baseball team and mechanical students outside the iron shop in 1886.

Biographical Note

George J. Jenks, from Huron County, Michigan, graduated from Michigan Agricultural College (M.A.C., now Michigan State University) in 1889 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was manager of the 1886 M.A.C. baseball team. In 1887, he participated in the Mechanical Club, as a time keeper for Field Day and from 1887-1888 he was a member of the Delta Tau Fraternity. In 1888, he was treasurer of the Michigan Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association (M.I.A.A.) as well as umpire for the M.A.C. baseball team. In 1888, he was also the Presiding Elder in the Pi Tau Pipe Club and Sergeant Major in the Military Department. In 1889, Jenks was a member of the Engineering Society. As of 1931, he was President of the Huron Milling Co. of Harbor Beach, Michigan.
