Nels Peter Alifas papers
Scope and Contents
The collection contains correspondence and printed material of Nels Peter Alifas, president of District 44 (Federal government employees) of the International Association of Machinists. The papers include United States Senate and House reports and circular letters to congressman which trace the union's achievements in its efforts to influence federal legislation; a May 1944 issue of "The Federal Machinist" the District 44 official bulletin; and a record of proceedings of a District 44 convention, August 24-28, 1959. The correspondence contains comments on the Taylor System, Samuel Gompers, New Deal economic policies, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Also included is a letter from Alifas to Bob Repas (the donor of the collection) explaining his purpose in sending the papers.
