Biographical Note

Erich Fromm was born March 23, 1900 in Frankfurt, Germany, son of Naphtali and Rosa Krause Fromm. He was educated in Germany, completing his Ph.D. at Heidelberg University in 1922.

Prior to coming to Michigan State University in 1957, he lectured at Columbia University, Yale University, National University of New Mexico and served as chairman of the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology. He was a visiting professor at Michigan State University from 1957–1961.

He died in March 18, 1980 in Muralto, Switzerland.
