Calvin Ennes collection
Scope and Contents
The collection contains a copy of the Genealogy of the Saganing Indians of Arenac County and the Saginaw Valley in Michigan (1760-circa 1880), written by Bernard Bourase and his wife Charlotte, both Native Americans, for a settler, Harvey Chamberlin. It contains some interesting comments on the treaty of 1819, which deprived Native Americans of their land in and around the Saginaw Valley.
Included also is an index of Ojibwa words and their English translations written by the donor.
