Scope and Contents

This collection contains letters, brochures, and a rough draft of a booklet entitled, "Adoption Laws and Related Court Procedure in Michigan." The letters are between Lyons and Ruth Bowen, then head of the Children's Division of Welfare, and concern the rough draft of the booklet and possible revisions. The rough draft of "Adoption Laws and Related Court Procedure in Michigan," written by Maxine Boord Virtue, also included, contains editing marks and revisions.

The brochures in the collection describe the White Steam Car, the Baker Boiler, and the Delling Steam Car including two photographs.

Biographical Note

Barrett Lyons was born on October 28, 1903 and received his A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1925. He then, briefly, taught English at Michigan State College (now University) as an instructor. In 1938, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master's Degree in Social Work, and then became involved in welfare programs around Michigan. Barrett Lyons retired in 1961, and became an associate professor at the University of Michigan's School of Social Work. He retired from this post in 1969. He died May 10, 1988 at his home in East Lansing.
