The collection includes the diary of Manuel McCormick of Lenawee County, Michigan. The entries describe his experiences, troop movements, and battles through the southern United States, particularly Tennessee, while a soldier during the American Civil War, from January 1863 through July 1864.

Biographical Note
Manuel McCormick was born 21 March 1834 in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in Company F, Ohio Infantry 47th Regiment on 15 June 1861; transferred to Company I on 8 August 1861. He was promoted to Corporal on 12 October 1862 and then to Sergeant on 16 July 1863. He mustered out on 20 August 1864 on expiration of term of service. After the war, he was a farmer and lived in Riga, Lenawee County, Michigan. He died 27 March 1910.
