Grand River Beautification Committee records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the records of a beautification project for Grand River Avenue in East Lansing, Michigan. The removal of old elm trees along the avenue in the early 1960's made it necessary to improve the appearance of the central business district. Besides documenting much of the early thinking behind the proposed improvement, the records include a downtown parking study completed in April 1970 as part of the overall improvement of the downtown area, and a brief history of the development of Grand River Avenue.
