Scope and Contents
The Carpenter papers consist of one letter, written by G. Carpenter of Ravenna, Ohio, to his brother, Joseph Painter Carpenter, of Blissfield, Michigan. This letter, dated August 19, 1835, discusses the issues regarding the boundary dispute between Michigan and Ohio in the 1830s.

Biographical Note
Joseph Painter Carpenter was born about July 18, 1803 in New Hampshire and later moved to Blissfield, Michigan. He was a blacksmith and married to Aurelia (Orilla) Carpenter in 1843. He died in 1891.
His brother may of been Gilbert Carpenter
