Biographical Note
Marietta Denison was born on February 3, 1924 to Harry S. and Lucia Dains Denison. The 1930 census shows the Denisons living in L'Anse, Baraga County, Michigan, and the 1940 census in Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan. Marietta Denison graduated from Charlotte High School in 1942. She was involved in the Travel Club, the Commercial Club, Honor Banquet, the Junior Play, and Orange and Black (the school newspaper). She was also Home Room president and Chief Librarian.
She began working at the Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) Library in September 1946 as an assistant cataloger. From 1956 to 1959, Denison was the Traffic Librarian (as part of MSU’s Highway Traffic Safety Center). She was listed as a librarian from 1959 until her resignation in 1966.
On August 17, 1949, she married Hugh Sidney Whipple in Lansing, Michigan. They divorced on July 18, 1952. In July 1960, Denison married Robert M. Williams.
Denison died Died November 23, 1974 at her home in Haslett, Ingham County, Michigan. She is buried in Bellevue Cemetery in Bellevue, Eaton County, Michigan.
