Scope and Contents

The records consist of by-laws of the department, seminar brochures, an Experiential Learning handbook, proceedings of the 1971 Snowmobile and Off the Road Vehicle Research Symposium, and the report “Recreation Area Day-Use Investigation Techniques” by Douglas Crappo and Michael Chubb (1969).

Historical Note

In 1956, the Resource Development Department was created in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In 1963, the Park Management Office was created within Resource Development. In 1966, Park Management Office changed its name to Park and Recreation Administration. In 1969, it became its own department within the College of Agriculture and was called the Department of Park and Recreation Resources. In 1995, the name changed to Park and Recreation and Tourism Resources. In 2004, the department dissolved and merged back under Department of Community Agriculture Recreation and Resource Development (formerly Resource Development).
