Scope and Contents
The Winifred S. Gettemy papers contain artwork including pen and ink designs, watercolors, and charcoal drawings by Gettemy and possibly her students. Subjects include landscapes, still life of objects including museum pieces, plants, interiors (including one of an arts and crafts-style room in a museum), architectural elements and designs. Many of the items are in the arts and crafts style. The various pieces may have been used as examples for her classes in design.

Biography
Winifred Sarah Gettemy received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. She was appointed Professor of Household Art at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1918 and in 1919 she became head of the Domestic Art Department after receiving special training in applied art, color, design, and interior decorating. A textile specialist, she collected a valuable assortment of textiles for the department's use. Previous to coming to M.A.C., she taught at Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa and Illinois Women’s College, Jacksonville, Illinois. She retired in 1942, and died in 1945.
