Historical Note

The Tri-University Consortium was founded in 1972 "to help achieve a substantial increase in non-traditional agricultural exports as a base for overall Uruguayan economic expansion." The three American universities involved were Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University (lead institution), and Texas A & M University. The project was funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
