The Institute of Foreign Studies records consist of a blank questionnaire and a syllabus from a course titled, Europe: It’s People and Cultures an Area Course, the Primarily Slavic East and Southeast. The course was taught by MSU Professor of Sociology and Anthropology, Dr. Paul Honigsheim.

The Foreign Studies Institute also known as the Foreign Studies Department was created in 1943. It was administered by the Division of Social Science under the School of Science and Arts. The Foreign Studies Department closed in 1961.
