Scope and Contents

The records of the Conservation Institute contain proceedings from the first Central Snow Conference, held at Michigan State College (now University)on December 11-12th, 1941. The conference included research from scientists and specialist in various fields on the problem and importance of snow. The conference publication originated from the sponsorship from Michigan State’s Office of Short Courses, Special Courses, and Conferences, the Conservation Institute, and Canada’s Department of Transport Air Services Branch Meteorological Division. Annual reports are also included in this collection.

Historical Note

The Conservation Institute was created in 1937. Although it was called an “institute,” it may have been an academic department. The curriculum was reorganized in 1950 and the Conservation Division was created. The Conservation Division and Conservation Institute existed simultaneously for 1950. In 1951, the Institute was disbanded. The curriculum was reorganized in 1956 and the Division of Conservation was disbanded and the courses reorganized into other departments.
