Scope and Contents

Included are materials related to the Rural Leadership School which was a course designed for rural church leaders. The 1948-1952 rural leadership materials include notes and outlines of the sessions which included topics on church leadership, rural life, home and family issues, and conservation. The 1955 materials contain a newsletter, session program, brochure and planning documents. Also included is one photograph showing people attending the Rural Leadership Course in 1955.

Historical Note

The Department of Special Courses and Conferences was created in 1948 under Continuing Education. Its existence may have occurred sporadically as it was not always listed in the University Directory. In 1960, it was called Special Programs.

It existed again from 1971-1979 and administered different student services such as handicapper, Upward Bound and the Office of Supportive Services. Records from this era can be found in UA 3.28

After 1979, its programs and services were administered by other departments.
