Historical Note
Tennis at Michigan State University began during the intercollegiate field days of the1880’s. In 1900, the first permanent courts were constructed on campus north of where Morrill Hall stood. MSU won its only Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title in 1908. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, the tennis team participated in the State Intercollegiate and State Invitational tournaments. In 1951, the MSU Tennis team won the Big Ten Championship, becoming the first MSU sport to win a Big Ten championship.
