Historical Note
The Meridian Township Historic District Committee was formed as a result of the U.S. National Historic Preservation Act (1966) and legislation in Michigan (1970). The Meridian Board of Trustees appointed 22 township residents as members of the committee. Their task was to conduct studies and research and make a report on the historical significance of the buildings, structures, features, sites, objects and surroundings in Meridian Township and to make recommendations concerning the area to be included in a proposed historic district.
