Historical Note

The Opera Company of Greater Lansing was created in March 1973 under the name the Opera Guild of Greater Lansing as a non-profit corporation dedicated to bringing the Grand Opera art form to the Lansing area. The first presentation was La Traviata in 1974. In 1979 it expanded its season to two productions and changed its name to the Opera Company of Greater Lansing to reflect its “expanded community service role.” It remained a non-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors.
