Scope and Content

The Jere Hutcheson collection contains recordings, music scores, correspondence, programs, photographs and publications. The collection includes recorded and unrecorded music. Material in the recorded music section contains the audio recording of the work as well as supplemental material consisting of correspondence, drafts, performance programs and scores. The materials in the Unrecorded Music section contains the scores for the individual works. Also included are publications that include poetry of John Calvin Gore and transcribed by Jere Hutcheson as well as music publications written by Hutcheson.

Biographical Note

Jere Hutcheson was born in Marietta, Georgia, in 1938. He received his Ph.D. in composition in 1966 at Michigan State University, with H. Owen Reed as his major composition professor. Hutcheson began his career as a faculty member at Michigan State University in 1965. He was chair of composition from 1975 until 1992.
