Historical Note
The Michigan State University Gospel Choir was founded as Black Orpheus in 1971 by Wanda Lindsey, Misque Assata, and Amy Boyce. The choir recorded their first album in November 1978, which helped them initiate their traveling ministry. In order to make the name more inclusive for all people, in the fall of 1987 they changed their name to the Michigan State University Gospel Chorale. The name of the group was again changed (circa 2003-2013) to Gospel Choir to more accurately reflect the size of the group.
