Scope and Content

The Alvin E. House papers contains publications written by House on county government and a cooperative extension booklet about the Michigan legislative process. Some of the publications were written with Kenneth Ver Burg and Eugene Wanger. Also included is the publication "Guide to Michigan County Government" by Kenneth Verburg who was House's colleague. There is also program for a forum at which House spoke.

Biographical Note

Alvin E. House was born on January 11, 1926 in Kansas. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He received a master's degree in agricultural economics in 1958 from Kansas State University and a doctorate in economics from Iowa State University in 1963. He came to MSU in 1963 a professor of public affairs management in the Department of Agriculture Economics. He also served as a Cooperative Extension specialist in local government from 1963 to 1989. From 1992 to 1996 he was the Meridian Township supervisor. Alvin E. House passed away on October 3, 2012.
