Scope and Contents

The Charles Rowe collection contains photographs related to the REO Motor Company. The photographs include a row of cars at Harold Square in New York City lined up to welcome Percy F. Megargel and David Fassett back from their 12,000 mile double cross-continent auto tour in their 16 horse power REO Mountaineer. There is also an image of members of the New York Press cheering Megargel and Fassitt who are sitting in their car.

There are also photographs of men at a tug-of-war contest during an REO company picnic at Waverly Park in Lansing, Michigan. Charles Rowe appears in two of the images. Also included is a photograph of the employees of the Shipping and Receiving Office at the REO Service Station in Lansing. Samuel Rowe is listed as being in the image.

Biographical Note

Joe Charles Rowe (1888-1924) worked as a laborer in an automobile factory in Lansing, Michigan. His father, Samuel I. Rowe (1864-1951), worked as a receiving clerk for the REO Motor Company in Lansing.

Frieda Rowe (1891-1977), the donor, was married to Aquilla Rowe (1982-1960), another son of Samuel's.
