This collection contains Norris C. Bryson's 1979 dissertation entitled “The Response of the Cooperative Extension Service to the Great Depression in Michigan, 1929-1938.” The dissertation outlines the priorities of the programs, personnel, and budget from 1929 to 1938, and how these priorities reflected both the local and national demands placed on the Extension Service. The work contains interviews with the county agents who implemented these plans, as well as reviews of the publications of the Extension Service.

Biographical Note
Norris C. Bryson was born September 30, 1944 in Oak Park, Illinois. He earned his B.A., M.A.and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He took a position at MSU advising students and worked as a Coordinator at the Office of Overseas Study.
