Scope and Contents

Records consist of annual reports for the years 1956-1969. Also included is a report on changes in the department's Ph.D. program in 1968, report on the development of a center for the study of the family and the child at Michigan State University from 1968. There are also booklets and flyers from varying dates (1944-1991) and a pamphlet discussing home education (1980).

Historical Note

The Department of Family and Child Ecology was called the Department of Home Management and Child Development from 1944 to 1968. From 1968 to 1980, it functioned under the name Department of Family and Child Sciences. In 1980, this department merged with the Department of Family Ecology (established in 1960) to form the Department of Family and Child Sciences. Later name changes include Department of Family and Child Ecology and Human Development and Family Studies.
