Ezra C. Hatton collection
Scope and Content
The collection includes correspondence, invoices, orders and receipts primarily from the period 1862-1869. There is also a copy of the published book by the State of Michigan recording the members and events of the 22nd Michigan Infantry Regiment.
Oversized material in the collection includes Regimental Record posters and the officer's commissions received by Hatton.

Biographical Note
Ezra Caves Hatton (sometimes spelled Hatten) was born September 6, 1813 in England. Around 1846 he moved from New York to Michigan. He married Melvina Davis (1826-1920) in 1844 in Detroit, Michigan. They had two daughters, Melvina (1848-1920) and Eudora (1852-1921).
Hatton enlisted in 22nd Michigan Infantry on July 26, 1862 and was commissioned a captain on July 31, 1862 in Company A. He was promoted to Brevet Lt. Colonel on March 13, 1865 and commissioned an officer in the U.S. Volunteers Adjutant General Department Infantry Regiment on June 8, 1865. He remained for a period of four years in Huntsville, Alabama.
In 1869, he moved the family to Howell, Michigan. He died July 26, 1877.
