Biographical Note
Ingram Olkin was born on July 23, 1924. He received a B.S. in mathematics from City College of New York in 1947, an M.A. in mathematical statistics from Columbia in 1949, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1951. In 1951 he came to MSU in the Department of Mathematics In 1960, he became Chair of the Department of Statistics at the University of Minnesota. In 1961 he went to Stanford University in 1961 for a joint position as Professor of Statistics and Professor of Education. He served as Chair of the Department of Statistics from 1973 to 1976. Olkin retired in 2007
