The Martin Bukovac papers files contain correspondence and reports reflecting his career. Also included are reminiscences about events and people during his career. Topics include his research, awards and recognition, international visits, university committees, and grants. Other topics include work with the National Institute of Health, pesticides, National Science Foundation, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the new MSU Horticulture building.

Biographical Note

Martin J. Bukovac was born in Johnston City, Illinois on Nevember 12, 1929. He received his B.S. with honors from Michigan State University in 1951, and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a tank unit commander in Europe from 1951-1953. He then received his M.S. in 1954 and his Ph.D. in 1957 from Michigan State University. Dr. Bukovac then worked as an Assistant Professor from 1957-1961, an Associate Professor from 1961-1963, and finally a Professor from 1963-1992, all in the field of Horticulture and all at Michigan State University. During this time he conducted postdoctoral studies at Oxford and Bristol Universities. Bukovac eventually retired from Michigan State University in 1996 as a University Distinguished Professor of Horticulture Emeritus.
