Biographical Note
Robert F. Crawford was born on September 22, 1936 in Wilmington, Delaware. He received a B.S. in 1961 from the School of General Studies at Columbia University. Starting in 1966, Crawford worked as a freelance cinematographer and editor in New York City. In August 1974, Crawford was hired as a cinematographer/editor at Michigan State University's Instructional Media Center. A year later, he was promoted to senior cinematographer/editor at MSU's Instructional Film and Multimedia Production Service.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Bob Crawford recorded interviews with forty-two college students, most of whom were matriculating at Michigan State University. Others were students at Lansing Community College and the University of Michigan. Crawford compiled the interviews into the manuscript "Generation X: The Hopes and Dreams of College Students."
