The Dorothy Shemick Collection contains negatives of student life. Included are student events, campus, and people. The images of campus and building include Macklin Field, Co-Op Houses - Beal house and Kedrick Housea and construction photos of President Hannah's house. Other images include action shots of football, hockey, and diving, water carnival, parties, teas, Sailing club, Yakeley girls group photos, Yakeley officer photos, and a Horticulture Show, President Hannah;s senior reception, and pushcart races. Also included in this collection are images of the Homesteaders in the fall of 1949, the first year that the publication started again after no issues for 16 years.

Biographical Note

Dorothy (Dot) Dreher Shemick graduated from MSC in December 1950 with a degree in Home Economics. She was a staff photographer on both the State News newspaper and the yearbook from 1948-1950. She was as also a member of the Kappa Alpha Mu publication, which focused on photo journalism. She married John M. Shemick in 1950, he passed in the 1980s after teaching at Penn State for 26 years. She and her roommates (Pat McDonald, Sally Critten, and Joan Carter Goldsmith) were the first residents of Yakeley hall.
