Historical Note

The Office of Overseas Study (OOS) was established in the early 1950s. OOS advised students and faculty about study, travel, and work abroad. The office worked closely with campus administrative offices and academic departments and maintained links with foreign universities and private organizations.

In 1967, an Overseas Study Information Service (OSIS) was established in the Center for International Programs. This service was part of the Office of International Extension.

In 1988, the Office of Overseas Study moved from University Outreach to International Studies and Programs. The name was changed to the Office of Study Abroad in 1996.
