Biographical/Historical
Wrestling is thought to have started at Michigan State University as a field day event in 1884. The first competitive wrestling event against other schools is thought to have taken place in 1886. Wrestling was then a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference sport from 1886 to 1906. Wrestling began at MSU again in 1921 and continues to this day.
