Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a copy of the manuscript "Reflections from Choppy Waters" by John Cantlon, 1999, and outlines and text for speeches and/or presentations and a brochure for the Molecular Biology Institute. There is also a letter to MSU Interim Provost, Theresa Sullivan.

Biographical Note
John E. Cantlon earned a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from University of Nevada in 1947, and a PhD in Plant Ecology from Rutgers University in 1950. He worked as a field assistant, U.S. Department of Interior in 1940, aviator, U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, and held several appointments at universities including Rutgers University, George Washington University, and Boston University. In 1954, he was hired by Michigan State University. Aside from being a professor, he served as Academic Vice President and Provost, Vice President for Reearch and Graduate Studies, and Dean of the Graduate School.
