Scope and Contents

This collection includes brochures and other publications describing the Food Science program, reports, newsletters and other publications. Annual Reports are stored separately and include the years 1960–1971, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1996. Also included are subject files and correspondence of Theodore I. Hedrick, a professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

The electronic resource, "The Dairy Foods Industry in Michigan 1860-2003," is a program hosted by John Partridge which discusses the dairy industry in Michigan and Michigan State University's role in the industry.

Historical Note

The Department of Food Science was created in the College of Agriculture in 1959-1960 as an outgrowth of Food Technology courses. Circa 1971 this department merged with the Department of Human Nutrition and Food Development in the College of Human Ecology. The new Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition was jointly administered by the two colleges until circa 2005, when the College of Human Ecology was dissolved. Since then, it has been jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Natural Science.
